Side Effect was formed in Los Angeles, California in May 1972, known as The Cultures when they started out as an all male trio. By 1974, the group recruited a female vocalist and changed their name to Side Effect. The leader of the group, Augie Johnson, had been singing since childhood. In fact, he was among the kids who sang on Frank Sinatra's 1959 hit 'High Hopes.' Throughout the years, Side Effect has been performing and entertaining their fans all over the world. Side Effect is making a come back and it is stronger than ever! It's "About Time" and we look forward to what's in store for our listening pleasure. Taja: What's the Cd Title? Augie Johnson: About Time Taja: Who came up with the name of the Cd? Augie Johnson: Barry (BJ) Jackson who is one of the members of the group. He said the name was very fitting. Taja: What should we expect to hear from Augie's Side Effect? Augie Johnson: A brand new R&B Bop with Acapella and AcaBop sounds with lots of horns, effects, and drums; Funky, jazzy and soulful to everyone's ears. Taja: How do you feel your come back will be this time around? Augie Johnson: A Great one!! We're aiming to capture our old fans with something new but yet, still have that same ole feelin (Ha ha ha) and we plan on making new fans!! Taja: Do you still consider your music Bop? Augie Johnson: Yes, still R&B Bop, never will change; it'll only get better! Taja: What is your biggest dream for the group? Augie Johnson: To win a Grammy!! Taja: Where and when can we see Augie's Side Effect on tour? Augie Johnson: Stay tune!! We'll be coming to a city near you! Taja: When can we buy the Cd? Augie Johnson: Cd's will be in stores end of April beginning of May 2010. Be sure to get yours! Taja: Any last thoughts or words you would like to add? Augie Johnson: I'd like to thank everyone who participated on this album. I want to give a Special thanks to the group and to my grandkids Kevin Laury-Johnson, Niya Laury-Johnson, Tylir Laury-Johnson, Kaylin Laury-Johnson, and Amanda Howard-Johnson who are all on the album.
